Occasions

You only have a few seconds to impress someone new.
A job. An interview. A party for someone.
All of these events need the right outfit

My first occasion where I really planned out my outfit was a college admissions tour!  That day I went to UVa and CNU for the tour and the interview.  (Although, just taking a tour can be important for making that first impression- you can never be overdressed).  At UVa, there are just informational interviews which don't count towards your decision for admittance.  Therefore I dress down the gorgeous eyelet dress with a (cropped!)  jean  jacket.  Too many times, they have students entering with the fanciest attire when they have clearly pronounced that the meeting doesn't have an impact.  Therefore the outfit was the perfect blend of professional, eye-catching, and gave a hint of personality.

Admission's informational "interview":

On the flip side, CNU's interview did count so I brought along a tailored cropped grey jacket to go over the dress.  Thank you Ann Taylor!

Another important occasion to dress well to is any kind of public speaking seminar or show where you are the speaker.  The attire does largely depend on what kind of an event is being held, but then again, there are general guidelines on what to wear!
1.  Keep the color simple (and do you're homework- don't match your back drop!)
2. If there are patterns or details cover it up with a jacket or keep the details concentrated in one area.
3. Is it appropriate for your event? Ask your coordinator the specifics or for their opinion
4.  Wear heels that aren't going to cause any trips or complications!

My first public speaking event was for a charity auction which was pretty strict on dress code.  No short dresses, excessive jewelry, bright colors, etc.  My audience would be mostly families, because the event was raising money for a local school and I was to represent the school as a student and explain why we need the money. Asking for money is very tricky, if you do it politely.  The point?  LBDs will never let you down!  I picked this conservative dress because of the expectations and the details are just simply appealing in one area.  I don't usually wear necklaces to speaking events because they might clang! with a clip microphone (if they offer that option) or can cause noise during the worst moments.  With the top of the dress taking care of the jewelry problem, I wore striking yet simple studs in a seashell white.

Another event that can be a challenge to dress for is a dance!
There are too many DONTs that get violated in dance dress code because they simply don't sell appropriate (PRETTY!) dresses in the stores anymore.  Unless you want to pay $200?  Then again, you can find some.  I won't advise buying your dress off the internet simply because of fitting issues and the hassle of returning, but do shop around.  I look for new styles that pop up and get an idea of what colors and cuts I want, then I go out to find them in various malls.  Yes it takes time and gas, but that's what car pooling is for and shopping with different friends.  Also, everyone wears some variation of:

You can find these dresses in all colors and in almost every store.  It's not that they aren't cute, but the chance of you repeating someone does increase...  What about- One shoulders? Layered? Patterns? A-symmetrical?  Sparkles?  Different straps?

Once you find what you really want to see on your dream dress you won't be looking for just another event look.  Plus, keeping in mind, my blog is helping you find the iner-classy style whoever you are- most unique styles don't break dress code.  They stick with pretty hues of colors and have the most classic cuts.  My favorite I found at Charlotte Russe; $36.99.

One Shoulder  + Sparkle + Gorgeous Twist Detailing
Length- mid thigh.

The next dress is a favorite of mine and I usually have a blazer over it!  It was from my favorite dress store and fits a little tighter but still hits appropriately.  The color is an eggshell with the smallest shimmer to it.  Az Well's; $28.95

Peplum fit + Sparkle + Off white color

My last dress is another LBD, but definitely more for private parties and can be worn with stilettos.  I  have only worn it once, and that was to a friend's Sweet 16!  The unique cut led from just window shopping to buying it.  With a similar fit to the dress above, it does have an interesting length of fabric which makes the dress a little more than just a tube dress.  The classy factor is the LBD component and the draping effect it has.

Great color + Cute Cut + Draping (weakness of mine)

Without the draping, it wouldn't be as toned up
and would be another SEEN IT a million times dress
Az Well's $47.99

Occassion! Occassion! Occassion!
Depending on where your going and who your audience is, picking the right fit and right color can be "love or leave" situations.  Keep your outfit within your style, price range, and classy standards. Just be mindful and make sure the dress says you all over it.
